Personal Background:

My interest in psychiatry developed at a very early age when my brother was diagnosed with a severe mental illness. I saw first hand the stigma and social isolation that patients and their families face in society, and decided to pursue a career in psychiatry during my medical education. During my professional journey so far, I have had the honour of working with and learning from a great number of respected mentors and colleagues in some of the best mental health facilities; South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, East London NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, and Queen Mary University.

I believe psychiatry as we know it, is changing and in near future, learning and knowledge will continue to extend far beyond any society, culture or even medical specialty.  It is, therefore, no surprise that eastern therapies such as yoga, mindfulness, tai-chi, and many others are being introduced into the mainstream western mental health care. I believe that having studied psychiatry and medicine in India, followed by consolidating and expanding my knowledge in the UK, has given me a distinct viewpoint on combining a variety of techniques and abilities when treating mental health illnesses.

My long-term objectives are to promote and improve mental health and well being in diverse populations, different cultural groups, and in the LGBTQ+ community.

Apart from having a keen interest in cricket, travel and cultures, I enjoy cooking Indian food for friends and family.

Outside of my clinical work, I am an active member of two LGBTQ+ groups, and run monthly wellbeing support groups.
